Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Educational Programs

The residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is accredited by the American Medical Association and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for training in pediatric orthopaedics, adult orthopaedics, hand surgery, rehabilitation and trauma.

Basic science education includes pathology, anatomy, biomechanics, microbiology, biomaterials, bone physiology and biochemistry. Four residents are accepted for the five-year program annually. Their training is supervised by 17 full-time faculty physicians, a number of part-time faculty and faculty research support.

The program includes clinical rotations on orthopaedic services at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and private practice rotations during fourth year. In addition, because of the program's interest in and emphasis on the AO method of internal fixation, all residents attend an AO/ASIF fracture fixation course during their first year.
